Wa Prison Officers Agreement
Successful graduates continue to learn in the workplace and follow a nationally recognised qualification, CSC30115 Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial). After 9 months of probation, officials may be recommended for tenure until satisfactory performance and qualification are achieved. The training program has been presented to more than 1,000 prison officers since 2017. The programme has also been replicated in New Zealand prisons. Initially, there was a wage gap between public and private civil servants; This was challenged by the union. Due to staff retention difficulties, a contractual agreement was reached that allowed Serco officials to increase the same salaries as civil servants. All amendments and agreements relating to Serco installations are available online. The RPOA was created to find out and works through a group of volunteers to organise social events during the year where retired officers can meet for lunch, dinner or a few drinks with other retired officers from across Western Australia. The law was amended so that only newly recruited officers had to swear allegiance. The union has a social media presence that uses mass communication to reach both members and the general public who may be interested in prison affairs in Western Australia.
An ongoing campaign on WAPOU`s social media channels is its “Respect the Risk” campaign, which highlights the roles and responsibilities of prison officers on the ground. . . .Posted on: October 14, 2021, by : greyson
